Here are 4 quick ways to maintain your fresh, new concrete garage and driveway:
1. Clean and Seal Concrete
Generally, you should reseal a concrete driveway every two years or when the finish begins to show wear. That all depends on many factors such as weather and amount of traffic it receives. But keeping it clean on a general basis will help maintain it for years to come.
2. Remove Stains Immediately
Even though your concrete has a sealer to protect it, it’s still a good idea to remove oil, gasoline, grease and other spills as soon as possible. And do not let stains set in extended heat as concrete will absorb the stains making it very difficult to remove.
3. Avoid Using Salt
Using deicers or salt-based deicers on your concrete driveway in the winter can cause severe surface damage—primarily scaling and spalling—by forcing the thawing and refreezing of moisture. As a safe alternative, use sand.
4. Take Care
Although concrete is one of the most durable paving materials for driveway construction, the typical residential driveway isn’t made to support heavy vehicles, sports vehicles and large construction equipment. Also use caution when plowing or shoveling your driveway. Avoid the use of metal blades that might scrape or scratch the surface.
